I will be doing my doctorate at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the process of applications and letters of recommendation. Also, thank you to all of the programs I applied to and especially those who I got to talk with and know personally. I look forward to this fall and the many opportunities on the horizon.

Finished interviewing at several doctoral programs. Entering the last week of deciding where to finish up my studies. I have some very good options and the programs all look very strong and have been great to work with. I’ll have a decision posted on or close to April 15th on my home page.
Along with applications to programs, interviews, and decisions, I have been working on a few pieces (mentioned in Feb.) as well as a book of poetry that I will hopefully have in a draft form by the end of April–National Poetry Month. It’ll take a few more revisions I’m sure before I’m ready to publish the thing. Do stay tuned.
February, March, and April have been travel-heavy months. After finishing a swath of school interviews, Carly and I have been visiting lots of family in the DFW area and beyond. Recent trips include Austin TX, San Antonio, and Fort Campbell Kentucky. We’re hoping to get down to New Orleans before we start school in the fall.
February 15-March 2nd, 2013
Interviewing at several schools all over the continental United States for PhD/DMA programs in music composition. Putting together an application for the Brevard Music Center 2013 festival as well. Getting pretty good at the art of catching flights. Updates will be spotty until travel dies down. New works in the pipeline include: another sax quartet, more works for flute and alto sax, guitar solo (tremolo piece), guitar quartet, harp solo, harp quartet (series of miniatures), work for “Debussy trio,” and other odds and ends.

SCI National Conference at Ohio State University. Performance of “Structural Coupling” by the Tower Duo. Here’s a little review and mention of the piece by PARMA.
December 3, 2012
Recent work “Structural Coupling” was selected to be programmed on the National Conference of the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) performance lineup. The conference will be held at The Ohio State University School of Music on February 13-16, 2013.

New Work for solo violin just finished–“Fantasie, after Jimi Hendrix,” An homage to Jimi on solo violin in celebration of what would have been his 70th birthday this year. A sample score and some recordings should be coming on line soon and there should be a premier early 2013 Katie Jensen (MM Violin 2012, BYU).
A massive webpage update is underway and will continue through November. Mind the clutter.
Just finished the Brevard Music Festival. During the residency I studied with Robert (Bob) L. Aldridge and David Dzubay. Total compositional output was about 30 minutes of completely new music, three premiers, and one reading. Positive fallout from the festival should be coming online over the next few months.
